godsblade2 months ago#101692608Thanks for the links, I sent them a message asking them to get a refund on the shipping. I'm trying to get another parcel company to ship it so I don't risk it again, but am still waiting for a reply.
Yeah I'm not really sure what's up with the repacking fee, do they really just charge 1000 yen to basically just ship it back out without touching the box contents lol

Just writing incase anybody wants to know how it ended lol.

Basically what I did was ask them to start an investigation on why the parcel was sent back without delivery so I could get a refund. At the same time I paid the 1000 yen repacking fee and shipped it out with DHL.

The reason I had to pay the repacking fee was due to package damage and they ended up repacking the items and discarding the original packaging due to a massive dent (they sent pics). Luckily no items were damaged. I didn't appreciate spending the 1000 yen because the error was from the shipping company, but after receiving the package I have to say that they did a pretty good job reinforcing it at least so I don't feel like the 1000 yen was wasted. STILL SUCKS THOUGH

My main issue at least is that it isn't really mentioned that you will have to pay the repacking fee. This is mentioned on other websites such as AmiAmi or FromJapan, but I could not find it anywhere on ZenMarket. Also, apparently you might be charged up to 4000 yen for repacking. Just found the number floating around next to repacking fees if you requested for it yourself.

Anyways, I think most places won't specifically try to get a refund for any parcel related issues unless you ask them to start an investigation yourself. It is kind of disappointing that they didn't mention this in any way until I specifically asked them to look into it themselves as they were the ones that paid the shipping company. You will also have to wait for the investigation to finish before getting a refund, provided the investigation is fruitful.

IOSS worked fine for me, I was not charged any extra fees via DHL luckily. First time I used it on ZenMarket.

Zenmarket has new shipping option for small packgaes (under 2kg) for selected countries zenmarket.jp/en... (table at the bottom of the page)

Apparently cheaper than surface for packages under 500g but only takes 3 weeks. Won't check myself, since it doesn't apply to me ;p

If your country's postal service wants to charge you again for IOSS, simply complain and prove that you have already paid it to Zenmarket. I've noticed that some postal companies from certain countries cough fuck you bpost cough try to charge you again or charge you some fees anyway even though they aren't allowed to. But hey, might as well try to steal some more money from you for doing nothing right? When complaining about your postal service, also include the country or the name of the postal company so we know what countries or postal companies are iffy.

donslipo2 months ago#102059285I don't feel it, since I always (unless impossible) buy figures in bulk, since they charge 300yen per "order" not per "item". So there can be 20 items in a bulk sale, but they will still only charge 300yen of their fee.
They do actually charge per item, more or less. You buy 5 different doujinshi, books or DVDs from the same store, then you still pay 5x300 yen. Bulk orders are the only exception: If you order 5x the same DVD at once, you only have to pay 300 yen instead of 5x300.

I still consider them rather cheap, especially when you plan to buy fewer, but more expensive goods like scale figures. Also because of free consolidation. Probably not worth it if you want to buy many smaller, but cheaper goods. You might want to find cheaper alternative services, e.g. ones that only take a percentage and not a flat fee.

AlexChama2 months ago#102044620it is more than annoying for those who want to order items that are spicy and want to specifically use a proxy service with IOSS support so they don't have to show up at their customs office and reveal the contents to a customs officer.
In my experience, that's not really an issue. They don't really care about your "spicy" stuff - unless it's actually illegal in your country, of course.

Maybe my shame meter is just broken, I don't know. Not long ago, I've had to unpack a package of actual JAV Blu-Rays at the customs office - so, legit porn and not just spicy figures or comics. The officer definitely had a closer look at those Blu-Rays compared to inspecting my usual figures, but we all just had a bit of a laugh about it, then I paid and went home as usual.

Once, DHL Express also requested a full list of movie titles for a Zenmarket package with JAV Blu-Rays in order to complete the customs processing. If you've ever seen auto-translated JAV movie titles, you can imagine how hilarious that list turned out to be. Let's just say, that titles for Japanese porn movies are very... expressive. DHL didn't contact me again and quickly sent the package through ^^

I also wanted to report that despite having paid the VAT in advance to them, I had to pay again on delivery. But as soon as I told them this they refunded me

IOSS didn't work for me either, sadly.
I hope they'll be able to fix this.

I've always been very satisfied with Zenmarket, but ordering through them from Surugaya lately seems a bit weird. Despite both items (a wallscroll and a steelbook) had free shipping, they charged me for shipping anyway. I asked them about it and they said those were 'inquiry costs' by the seller. In case of the wallscroll these were 220 Yen, in case of the steelbook even 605 Yen. Did anybody come across this issue before?

Suru (main store) charges a 220 yen processing fee for orders under 5,000 yen. Shipping is free over 1,500 yen, but varies under that.
    0-999 = 440 yen
    1,000-1,499 = 385 yen

If you ordered a single item between 1,000-1,499 yen, 220 processing and 385 shipping would add up to 605 yen.

The prepaid VAT didn't work for me either. At least the package was undervalued so the post office couldn't scam me as much.

does anyone know if they'll charge you extra if you bought an item on a time-limited sale? i bought some stuff from surugaya within their timeframe but zenmarket didn't buy the stuff yet, and the sale is over. i think i'll add extra funds just in case they charge me extra for the regular price.

I've actually used this shipping method and it's being a very surprising experience so far. Total value of 6527 yen, shipped out of Japan on november 4, arrived in my country exactly 20 days later... And somehow our customs office completely missed it! That value would be more than enough to hit me with tons of taxes usually (our threshold is 50 dollars), but nope, they just cleared my parcel with no additional fees. Not even surface parcels are spared of taxes here.
Zenmarket would become my favorite proxy after this if they didn't stop allowing custom declared values. Is anyone else dealing with that? Changing value is only an option for surface parcels now.

Weird, since from July 1st (almost) everything was supposed to be taxed.

Never noticed that, since I almost always send big surface packages with them ;p
Did you contact them about it?
Last non-surface package I sent with them was in February and I was able to undervalue.
Will check it soon, since I plan to send and airmail pacakge, since I don't trust it spending too much time in transit. ;p

Yeah I actually sent them a message last night, but they'll probably only give me an answer on Monday. I'll come back to this thread with an update once they reply.

This is what Zenmarket had to say when I asked why I can't change declared value in anything but surface parcels.

    Dear [X],

Thank you for using our service.

Since a change of policy from all the courier companies in October, it is no longer possible to change the declared value of parcels when shipping with any of the them.

We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.

    Best regards,
    Lucas

Welp, it was good while it lasted.
