Has anyone had any luck asking for a change in shipping method for a forwarding ticket? If I'm understanding it correctly it is not possible.

They quoted me 5800 for Air Parcel to Europe for one scale figure and two Nendoroid petits from Surugaya. Package weights 1.1kg and they say it doesn't fit small packet. The shipping is more than the items :(

I had no problem asking them to quote another shipping method and then changing my shipment to DHL. When they sent an email telling me my item was in stock and ready to ship, I just replied to that email and asked if I could receive a new quote.

This was in January of this year, and they got back to me the next business day in Japan :)

Thank you! They replied within an hour that it was the cheapest option, I guess the box must be too big (it's from Surugaya). I asked if repackaging would make it cheaper, so I'm waiting for an answer to that.

In the end I paid that crazy shipping. I'm sure repacking would've made it cheaper, but time for the payment was running out. And they seemed a bit stubborn, so I just gave up because I didn't want to lose those figures. :(

Edit: they already shipped it. Last week they also shipped ITEM #720151 within a few hours, so in that regard they are amazingly fast. The one last week left Japan on Saturday. Customer Service also replied fast last week. Within an hour.

How long does Big in Japan hold on to your packages for their forwarding service? Is it the average 30-45 days?

From their forwarding infp page (www.biginjap.co...): "You can keep a maximum of 10 parcels in storage with us for up to one month."

They are not super strict on this (I've had them hold items up to 1.5 months before due to an item being delayed), but they definitely don't appreciate holding onto things too long. In my experience, they will automatically send a shipping invoice if you have 10 parcels regardless of how much storage time is left.

Will the notify you when your item arrives at their warehouse? And do you need to request a shipping invoice or will they just send you one once your item arrives their warehouse?

I've had them pack 12 parcels together once, although 2 of them were supposed to go with other parcels that I made another ticket for. I wouldn't push my luck given their bare-bones communication, though.

They will comment "X parcel(s) ok" when items arrive, which also sends an email notification. They will send a payment request once your package is ready.

What happens if you put a different billing address that's not the same as on your card? The shop I want to buy from is going to have a limited sale soon, but the shop only lets you choose a billing address from within Japan. I'm located in the US and my billing address is also within the US. If I were to enter a Japanese billing address, will my order still go through?

What store are you trying to buy from? I've found that it depends on the store. Well known stores like Animate, Movic, and Suruga-ya never rejected my card (and my bank never seemed to have issues with me somehow having a Japanese address). But there are big names like Kotobukiya, Kodansha, and Square Enix that will reject foreign credit cards no matter what. Smaller stores have varying levels of success.

How long do they usually take to send the Paypal invoice after they have received your items (forwarding service specifically) ?

They received my item Monday but I still don't have the Paypal invoice. I'll go on vacations next month so I hope they don't take much more time since I might not be home to receive my parcel if that's the case...

Generally they take 1-2 days after you have asked for an invoice or if you're only forwarding one package.

Also many stores are closed July 23-25 JST due to the Olympics/weekend this week.

Thanks for your answer. I'm only forwarding one package but I'll wait a little bit more before contacting them I guess.

They will be closed until Monday. National Holidays Thursday and Friday, and closed over the weekend as usual. i.imgur.com/gYr...
For future reference, you can find their calendar on the left-hand side of their site.

In my experience (14 forwarding orders), they have only taken more than 24 hours to request payment or create the shipping label on one occasion (after GW). Either step is usually done within a few hours, depending on the time of day (in Japan).

I never used them before this so it's making me even more anxious now... I'll write to them and hopefully have a quick answer then...

Just to cover every base since this is your first time, did you get a message saying "1 parcel ok" on Monday or are you basing that off of the tracking? Did you add a comment to the ticket describing your package before the item arrived? If so, then just give them until the end of business hours (JST) on Monday.

No I didn't get that message I was just basing myself on the japan post tracking. I did say what was in the package though and I gave them the tracking number. Thanks for your help :)
