Linkeatbanana3 months ago#118231337Did anyone notice that shipping costs for figures are almost uniform now on Amazon? For me, everything is between 2 and 3k. Figma and Nendo shipping got more expensive while shipping for scales is a lot cheaper. Shipping on some figures went from 10k down to 2.5!
It costs the same to ship a Nendoroid as a 1/4 scale. Crazy

I saw that and was actually very happy about it.

Today I saw the shipping prices are high again for all the scales I had saved in my list.
Example: I considered buying the Ninguan by Mihoyo and shipping was 3kYen yesterday. Now it is 16k Yen! ouch.

    Curious.

I just checked and a lot of them went up for me too! Glad I ordered March Hare when his shipping was 3k not 8k lol

MarioW2 months ago#120322379Ok my problem was different I had to change my card but it didn't work in the orders page I've had to go to my account and changed it there so for now it works. Would be really sad to lose the pre order of the Marine Holo Live.

Here's hoping it got fixed for good for you then.

A friend of mine had a similar problem a week ago for a pre-ordered figure. His card got declined but interestingly, he could still buy gift cards with that card. So in case your card gets declined and customer support takes a while, that's also something you could try. Buy the value of the figure in gift cards, apply them to the order and pay it like that. It doesn't solve the general problem but as a short-term solution to save an order, it might be an option.

While it might have been some sort of promotional campaign they had going on for a while, I do agree that it's a pity they no longer have a uniform price for scales because Amazon JP really became a serious competitor this way to other retailers. Especially considering the downsides they undoubtedly have, the shipping becoming cheap has indeed made me (pre-)order a lot more from them. So it's worth a shot to express some remorse and dissatiafaction with that decision. While I do get that it's a loss to them, especially for heavy items like the aforementioned Ningguang which is almost a staggering 10kg with the wooden crate, I also think Amazon must be getting really good rates. And some figures have become even more expesive in terms of shipping than AmiAmi I feel?

Like a figure I had ordered on AmiAmi was 2500¥ with DHL Express and on Amazon it's now 2800¥. Okay, not a big difference but once again, Amazon is likely getting much better rates with DHL Express than AmiAmi does. I'm fine with paying roughly the same for all figures even if some ebd up a tiny bit more expensive if scales in turn also become more inexpensive to ship. Here's hoping it comes back...

i just checked and shipping rates for 1/4 FREEing bunnies (what i mainly buy/PO) have gone up by a couple thousand yen, so now i'm paying the same as if i ordered anywhere else which makes using them not really worth it (unless there is a big discount).

interestingly enough, prices on shipping for video games went down for me by just a bit over 1k yen.

This is very depressing… I was going to preorder one or two more figures yesterday but stopped when I noticed the new shipping prices. At least I got a few preorders in before this happened. I don’t think POs or orders placed prior to this will be affected.

Maybe 2k-3k yen shipping prices will make a comeback soon?

    man, I hope so.
I literally stopped using any other shop because the shipping rate made this the cheapest place to buy and additionally you had the quickest shipping. T_T

I really, really hope it comes back.

let me know if you got a reply.
I wonder why this was suddenly changed....
Was this a mistake in the system and they charged way too low for several weeks?
    Was it a campaign?
Did they change their contract with DHL express?
    Will this return?

    So sad...T_T

It's sad to see the cheap shipping gone.

I got a credit card just for amazon orders. Their shipping wasn't only cheap, but also fast. And with the 19% VAT (Germany) included, it often meant no customs fees.

Some shipping only increased by a bit, now some shipping costs nearly HALF the figure. That's a lot.

I will still consider Amazon, but I'll also now go back to checking other shops for the best price+shipping option.

    :(

Just a heads up, anyone new'ish to Amazon.jp and wondering why the shipping rates jumped around, that's them running algorithms in the background based upon changing rates. So clearly DHL is asking for more for shipping lately and it reached a tipping point. It is just as likely to change back in a couple weeks as both companies negotiate pricing further.

Much like how discounts keep happening for figures they have lots of until a certain number are sold, same algorithm tendencies apply to shipping fluctuations. Keep an eye out and jump on the deals when they happen, the window is usually about a week before sales meet the target and pricing goes back to normal.

I'm so insanely happy I ordered my Surtur on Monday on a whim, after seeing people selling her here for 220€ and more. I got her for around 70€ less than that on amazon, including VAT and shipping for 17,56€. And I'm able to pick her up tomorrow.

I really hope these prices return.
I made 40% of all my preorders for this year on amazon, I think. The 2022 Racing Miku was only affordable for me, because amazon had her for "cheap", compared to Amiami and other retailers. I was ready to extend my preorders with them even further.

You can avail yourself of product trackers and see how prices drop steadily for various released figures they have lots of stock of. That is not being handled by a person, Amazon is all about automation. Don't kid yourself that they're not using the exact same algorithm for each country, just different inputs. It's how they stay competitive and undercut competition across the globe.

Like, if you haven't already realized their 'live chat' support is their in-house version of ChatGPT, then I dunno what else to say.

This has nothing to do with the pricing alogithm for products.

The shipping changed without explanation for about 3 months, for select countries, the minimum was raised, and the scaling was non-existent. Now it's back to how it was before.

The easiest explanation is that someone fucked up and now it's fixed, there's no precedent for your so called algorithms, their shipping doesn't regularly change.

I have been buying from Amazon.jp almost exclusively during Covid because Canada. I have seen the prices fluctuate a lot. They routinely refund me 500~1500 yen on shipping based upon the original estimate the last few months now that JP Post opened up Surface and EMS to many more countries, including Canada, as of November. The shipping changes are clearly negotiated between Amazon and DHL, but the individual cost change to individual orders are most definitely automated. The latest drop was likely short lived to avoid loss of customers as cheaper shipping suddenly showed up. Now that that impact has run its course, DHL is clearly not interested in taking losses as inflation has also gone way up lately too. That's why costs have gone up, the distribution and effect to individual accounts is still automated though.
