I'd rather message the company behind the figure directly. NY usually gives the same generic response how they're getting in touch with the figure company but nothing usually comes around I'm afraid :/

    -----------------

Another thing though, does anybody know how to change the shipping method of a pre-order? I've heard on multiple occasions that it's possible but I somehow can't find the right way to do it ^^; Or will I have to message them and ask them to do that manually?

I believe you'll have to contact them (create a support ticket). Not exactly changed my shipping method, but change the country on my address (since I was moving that time), and they changed it without any fuss as well as update the shipping cost. Just make sure to specify the order number/s that you need to modify.

    You've been warned

My blog mysteriously disappeared after close to 25 replies and a few hundred views. Good thing I made a copy.

To preface this article, I've spent almost 5000 USD at Nippon Yasan since 2014.

Today I place an order for Aniplex Ultimate Madoka on their website and successfully made the order.

Since the box is going to be big for her and it's being shipped by JP Post Ferry/Ocean Freight, I figured that I'd add another figure to the order (Max Factory Azerin) and go with combined shipping.

I tab out from the window and add Azerin to cart. So far so good.

When I go back to the Ultimate Madoka order, I find out that the website cancelled my order with no notification.

    https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/BranGor1526900540.jpeg

NBD, I'll just place the order again, it's probably easier if order Azerin and Madoka at the same time anyway.

I go back to the order page and find out that the price was instantly raised by 7000jpy.

    https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/BranGor1526900541.jpeg

Now all these events didn't happen across a day or two, or even an hour or two, it happened in around 2 minutes.

I contact live support, they tell me to open a ticket and their "2nd level staff" will take care of it.

After being given the runaround for a few hours by "Fabrice" (tickets being closed with nothing but copy and paste generic reply, obvious that the guy didn't read what I typed in), I request to talk to Fiona (usually if I have an issue I talk to her she's very fair, and afaik she's been the boss since 2014).

Fabrice then closes all my tickets and say he won't forward my request, and that the price raise was due to someone placing an order after I cancelled. We all know that is a lie since the price raise was instantly after their system cancelled my order.

    https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/BranGor1526901448.png

I have heard more and more poor feedback over the years for NYS, and it seems like after their new ticket system was implemented their customer service went way down.

But I never expected to be lied to and treated like shit after being a customer of them for 4 years. If it is a price error in the first place just tell me right away and I can deal with it (other sites have her 20000 jpy, just no ocean shipping), but lying to me just so you can gouge someone for an additional 7000 jpy is a real bitch move.

I was planning on placing more preorders from them this year, but after this experience I am taking my business elsewhere. I would suggest anyone that is even thinking of buying from them to reconsider.

Thanks for reading...and if anyone has Aniplex Madoka for a reasonable price please PM me...

So, as you guys know, ever since 2017 we are talking about JEFTA (Japan-EU Free Trade Agreement) in the EU, that might get active in early 2019 if we are lucky.

Means, if we are lucky, soon, we in the EU don't have to pay for import VAT/taxes anymore on imported figures from Japan. (sorry for the UK collectors leaving the EU soon..)

But now I'm wondering about 1 thing, for some preorders I have placed with Nippon-yasan for 2019 and later.
I usually use the shipping option "Transi logistics", which includes the VAT/tax payments already upfront.

If there is no reason to calculate the VAT/tax anymore, will Nippo-Yasan update the shipping costs too, and lower the price for this shipping method?
I mean if there is no VAT/tax anymore, it would be illegal to charge me for this costs.

I was wondering, since there is no option to change shipping-methode by the customers side, after preordering.

    What do you guys think?

I think we will still have to pay the VAT i'm afraid... i've been trying to find information about the deal and nowhere has it said that VAT will be gone. And the trade deal might make the situation worse for collectors in EU since small japanese companies might get under the EU monitoring and we'll lose things like undervaluing ;(.

Nah, at the moment it runs like this → Order an item from Japan including Japanese VAT, if included, and shipping costs → When it arrives for example here in Germany, customs will check it and you will have to pay German VAT+Custom fee on (Japanese Item including Japanese VAT + shipping etc).

With the free trade agreement, I hope there will be no custom checks for imports from Japan at all, like it works for the whole EuropeanUnion. Of course you will still have to pay for the Japanese VAT if they are included, but not for the German VAT anymore.

The VAT I'm talking about in my first post is the German/European VAT, not the Japanese VAT.

Regarding changing the shipping method, you can send them a ticket. Regarding NY doing illegal stuff, welcome to the club. I doubt they will return the money payed for the EU VAT even if they won't need to deliver it to the EU customs. Hell, read my story above. They claimed my post office compensation money for a lost package, while utterly lying that they received nothing. That's an insurance fraud by their side, and it's not their first time, not the last, being shady AF.

Sorry to hear that about your case. Well I've chosen "pay later", so nothing has been payed yet.

    Interesting subject !

Thing is, if the JEFTA will work like the "European Union Distance selling regulations", it could be like this :

1.Japanese professional seller (like HLJ, amiami, etc) is collecting the japanese VAT upon a sale invoice to a customer (i.e non professional).

2.Consequently, european customer will receive his package with no additional costs : no VAT (already paid in Japan), and no custom fees (actually, there is already no custom fees sensu stricto for figures, at least in France).

Like the EU system, some restrictions could apply if the japanese seller's sales are above a certain turnover, to be determined.
All in all, it would be a "revolution" for european collectors, who could be able to purchase TONS of stuff without worrying about customs hassles !

However, the JEFTA could only be here to suppress the custom fees sensu stricto, and the VAT could still apply for the european customer ! So, it would change nothing for european collectors...

I would like to put my own bad experience with NY in this thread, my blog was also deleted.

I made an order of over $200, and it never arrived on my doorstep. I called to ask for tracking or if they even sent it out, and got told I physically received the package and it was considered delivered.

I told them that didn't happen, because I didn't have the package.

They told me tough nuts, they don't believe me, and even though the tracking says "undelivered," it's delivered, and now I'm out $220 with no figure. I've called multiple times to no avail. The preorder period was so long I can't make a claim on paypal. This was the most blatant scam I've ever been party to.

I've ordered a single other figure in the past with no problem, but it's obvious this is a roulette kind of thing.

They have no ethics or responsibility. I'm sure any other problem with an order would never be resolved.

I wish there was a way to warn people, if I knew they were this sketchy I would have never ordered from them. They just.... took my money!
